OnePlus, the China-headquartered startup behind the One
smartphone has finally launched the much-talked about phone in India at Rs
21,999. Months after announcing its entry in the region, the company has
informed that the OnePlus One will be exclusively available for purchase on
Amazon starting December 2, 2014. The company has also started selling
accessories for the phone.
In line with its global invite system, users in India will receive India-specific invites through OnePlus and Amazon.in.
OnePlus One sports top-of-the-line hardware specifications, including a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM, a 5.5-inch 1080P display, 13MP camera with F2.0 aperture and Sony image sensor, 5MP front camera, 3100mAh battery, 4G-support and and NFC. It runs CyanogenMod 11S, a custom version of Android developed by Cyanogen.
The company earlier announced that it has been developing its own version of Android and a build of the OS based on the latest version of Android, Lollipop, will be released for Indian users, next month. A final build of the OS will be released in February 2015.
The company has tied-up with HCL Care to offer after-sales service in 20 cities across India through 26 service centres.
The launch marks OnePlus' first-ever entry into a new market with local presence and collaboration with a local partner. It will also be the first time that OnePlus will have a physical presence outside of their headquarters. India will also be the first region in which OnePlus is setting up a localized service infrastructure, offering phone and walk-in support to users.
