High Speed Compact Flash Memory Card from Transcend released
Transcend has recently declared releasing of high-speed Compact Flash (CF) DRAM memory cards for the Indian consumers. The new 300X series Transcend CF cards will be an extension for its existing flash memory cards.

Dual-channel Ultra DMA (UDMA) mode 5 operation has been incorporated in these extreme speed CF memory cards to provide highest speed. The UDMA will allow these cards to respond at about 45MB per second speed for read/write operation. Too high a speed indeed! Such high-speed communication will ideally benefit high-density video imagery. Continuous video recording by digital SLR cameras using these super speed Transcend CF memory cards will now be a fun affair.

Speaking on the new release, Austin Huang, regional head for sales, Transcend says, “Transcend’s Extreme Speed 300X Compact Flash card delivers amazing read and write speeds making consecutive shooting and non-stop video recording with today’s high-performance DSLR cameras”. Regarding market acceptance of these high-end memory cards, he added, “we are confident that our customers will appreciate the performance and reliability that it offers.”

Besides UDMA, another interesting addition in these cards is implementation of ECC (Error Correction Code) technology. With inbuilt advanced ECC, these CF cards will be able to respond automatically to error detection and their correction in a smart way. Eventually, it will lead high reliability and corruption free data handling.

Presently Transcend has launched these CF memory cards for Indian consumers in three different sizes: 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB. Comparing to their high efficiency and reliability, costs of these cards are not too high. You may need to spend Rs.3,800, Rs.7,500 and Rs.16,500 to get a 4GB, 8GB and 16G Transcend CF memory card respectively.

Microsoft released Service Pack 1 for Office 2008
Microsoft released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Office 2008 for Mac, designed to add stability, security, and performance enhancements to the suite of office applications. The update features suite-wide fixes, as well as improvements to the individual applications that make up Office.

Microsoft says the service pack will improve performance when you type text into a text box, shape, or chart element. A more-intelligent Remove Office tool will no longer search for copies of Office in a Time Machine backup, while another fix provides for proper layer positioning with inserted PSD files.

Office 2004 applications could quit unexpectedly when users tried to copy content into them from an Office 2008 program; Service Pack 1 fixes this bug.

Office 2008 SP1 is available now as a download from Microsoft's Web site or via Microsoft Auto Update.

Service Pack 1 is the second update released by Microsoft since Office 2008's debut. In March, the company issued Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 which offered security and stability improvements for the productivity suite.

Scientists discover the Gene responsible for Obesity in Indians
The scientists have discovered the genetic root that leads to obesity among Indians. A gene sequence is suspected to trigger excess weight gain that leads to a number of ailments including diabetes. It has been detected by a research team in the Imperial College London. This seems to hold hope for the future obesity treatments.

This finding may explain why the Indian Asians are unusually obese and what can be done to prevent its occurrence in the population. The rogue gene that leads to obesity is situated near the MC4R gene. This gene plays vital role in controlling the energy levels in human body.

The lead researcher of the project has said that even though the genetic inheritance can not be stopped but this new finding can point at effective measures to prevent obesity. Apart from understanding the causes of obesity, it would help people to avoid the onset of heart diseases.
