BSNL launches M-Secure to track lost Mobiles

State-run telecom operator BSNL has launched mobile security value added service that will allow its customers to track location of their lost mobile phones, remotely lock the device and erase data, among others.

BSNL is offering the solution, Msecure, in association with Beyond Evolution.

“Through Msecure solution user can remotely manage data contained in his or her lost mobile handset” says BSNL Director.

The application will also provide complete call log details of the lost mobile at pre-determined intervals to emergency number feeded in the mobile.

Through the application, user will be able to remotely lock device, erase data and track location of their lost device.

The application will send the location details through SMS to the emergency number. The application also allows a user to remotely raise an alarm on the lost or misplaced device.
“Security of mobile handsets has become a cause for concern owing to important data stored in it. Loss or theft may lead to unauthorized access and possible misuse of such data,” BSNL said.

BSNL and MTNL to make India A Telephone Hub

In a major initiative taken by India’s state owned telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), every village of the country will receive public telephone service before the end of 2009. After receiving Department of Telecom’s (DoT’s) in-principle approval, BSNL has started expanding it’s installation operation for the public telephones in over 50000 villages. DoT’s Universal Service Obligation Fund will provide subsidy support for BSNL’s village public telephone scheme.

Under the ongoing Bharat Nirman programme, most of the villages of the country are being provided with the telephony services. Satellite technology has benefited nearly 5,000 remote villages, while about 30,500 villages are connected with the high-speed broadband services. WLL network of BSNL is now available to about 75 percent of the villages. More interestingly, about 11 million villagers in 2,56,000 villages are now enjoying BSNL’s GSM connection.

While BSNL is busy connecting rural folks, India’s another telecom agency Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is working hard to start a new era in India’s telecom industry by introducing 3G mobile services in Delhi on trial basis around the crowded Connaught Place area. The much-hyped service is likely to be test-launched before the end of this month, said a market analyst. If MTNL’s first ever outdoor trial for 3G services becomes a success, Delhi and Mumbai are likely to get 7,50,000 GSM lines each to switch over to 3G services.

World Phone to offer broadband services at Rs 95

There has been a race to capture revenue in the ISP section and this is gradually warming up in India. Ideally the service provider should provide all the three services, telephone, cable TV and the internet. However due to a technological gap all the three areas have progressed in a non linear fashion.

The MTNL and the BSNL have made an attempt to provide IPTV on their telephone lines. Now World Phone Internet Services Pvt. BSNL will give you a telephone for Rs 20 only

Few years back, having a telephone was considered to be a luxury in India. There were a number of towns and districts with less than 100 telephones. Today, the telecom revolution has fully bloomed in India. The government carrier, BSNL, and private operators are in a cut throat competition.

The BSNL has proposed a new scheme in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh. Under this scheme a landline telephone will be available by paying installments of Rs 20 per month. Another variation of the scheme is paying Rs 200 at one time instead of the monthly charge. BSNL is even offering 20 free calls per month to its subscribers under this scheme. Right now, this scheme is available only in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh.

India has witnessed the fastest growth in telephone density in recent time. BSNL is the largest telecom service provider in the country. And bollywood star Preity Zinta enjoys being the brand ambassador for BSNL. India now boasts a telephone density of 24.63 percent. The total number of mobile phone subscribers are assessed at 242.4 million.
