RIM brings Angry Birds to PlayBook

The widely popular mobile game Angry Birds will be available soon on Research In Motion's PlayBook tablet, the company said.

The game, which features birds destroying the pigs which stole their eggs with the help of a slingshot, is developed by Rovio, which plans to list on the Nasdaq within five years.

Sony Ericsson launches PlayNow Kiosk - new mobile entertainment service

Sony Ericsson has launched a new service for mobile entertainment. Using this service handphone users in the Asia Pacific region can download the latest movies, TV series, games and music from its retail stores.

The new service called PlayNow Kiosk is limited to Sony Ericsson handphone users and is part of the firm's efforts to differentiate itself amid tougher competition due to the global economic crisis.

According to Sony Ericsson, “during the first phase of the launch, the service will be available at more than 80 Sony Ericsson stores in Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia”.

The stores will feature a station where customers can plug in their phones, browse and download the latest movies within just three to four minutes for a fee.

Popular television series, games, ringtones and music, including more than 1,800 albums and 23,000 individual tracks, are available.

PlayNow Kiosk is expected to "create an opportunity for impulse buys and instant gratification" as the service is available in strategic places such as train stations.

7Seas Technologies releases 3D mobile games

7Seas Technologies, a Hyderabad based company called has made a major foray into 3D mobile games. The company has announced the release of seven 3D mobile games. These will be spread in the genres of puzzle, action, adventure and racing.

It is expected that 7Seas has made an investment of about $1 million to launch these games worldwide. L Maruti Sankar, Managing Director, 7Seas, said, “It took around 18 months for us to develop these games. With the penetration of high-end mobile handsets that support 3D mobile games, our focus would be on 3D Mobile Games.”

Ring tones and Wallpapers of the games will also be available. High end mobile users will be targeted via IMIMobile network. The games can be downloaded by just sending an SMS. The company expects a revenue of around $ 3 million in the first year. 7Seas Technologies has acquired a Germany-based gaming portal in January 2008.

The newly launched games include “3D Sudoku” and “Planets of Sudoku 3D” (puzzle genre), “Neetu The Alien Killer” and “Great Elude” (action), “Treasure Trove” (adventure), and “Derby3D” and “Kraze” (racing) titles. ‘Kraze’ and ‘Derby3D’ are available in both single- and multi- player, while three games Great Elude, Planets of Sudoku and Derby are multilingual and will be available in English, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and German.
